In South Africa, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Library, in collaboration with Itsoseng Youth Forum, organized a "Stand Up, Take Action, Make Noise for the Millennium Development Goals" campaign at Itsoseng Combined High School and Madiba Utlwa Primary school in Hebron in the North West Province, near Pretoria.

The first campaign was done at the Madiba Utlwa primary school, with staff members and 761 students participating. The UNIC librarian first read the objectives of the campaign and later the pledge was also read to students. The students responded to the pledge by blowing vuvuzelas and whistles. The second campaign was held at Itsoseng Combined High School, with 558 students participating, together with staff members. The response was thunderous, with students singing and blowing vuvuzelas and whistles. At both schools, the UNIC librarian distributed information on the Millennium Development Goals to educate students about the promises that world leaders have made to eradicate extreme poverty and its root causes by the year 2015.

Both schools showed great interest, by spending extra time in song and dance to demonstrate and amplify their support for the achievement of the Goals, and expressed willingness to participate in future campaigns to show their support for the eradication of poverty.
