The year 2008 is marked as the midpoint for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). As part of the contribution to the High Level Event on MDGs convened by the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN General Assembly, many national campaign events and activities have been undertaken to generate renewed commitment to fulfill the MDGs, to increase public awareness and to hold governments to account. The campaign and policy advocacy work strives to strengthen people’s influence on elected officials and political leaders to enhance political will to accelerate MDG progress in Africa.
