During the UN Summit on the Millennium Development Goals, BBC World Service organized a World Debate focused on what is holding the world back from achieving the Millennium Development Goals – and what must be done to meet the 2015 deadline for achieving them. Robert Zoellick, President of the World Bank; Esther Brimmer, US Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs; Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika, President of Malawi; Sandhya Venkateswaran of the “Don’t Break Your Promises” campaign in India; and Charles Abugre, Regional Director for Africa of the UN Millennium Campaign, responded to questions from moderator Zeinab Badawi and a guest audience at the Ford Foundation in New York.
