Countries in Europe
Spurring action at national level lies at the core of the UN Millennium Campaign. The five national campaigns in Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal and France play a pivotal role in mobilizing citizens and specific interest groups around the MDGs and Goal 8 in particular.
The activities of national campaigns vary from developing advertising and communication campaigns on the MDGs and on the fight against poverty, to supporting and working in partnership with Civil Society Organizations, Local Authorities, youth and environment groups, faith-based organizations, and Members of Parliaments to develop targeted advocacy initiatives.
Each national campaign develops a national strategy based on the specific cultural, social and economic context. All campaigns, however, share activities related to the European Union and its policies. They also work closely in the ‘Stand Up, Take Action’ initiative, an annual event aimed at to mobilizing citizens and raise awareness on the MDGs.
