The unemployed were encouraged to seek employment or get into some sort of vocational education and get a trade or else till the land while those still in school were to make sure they succeed in life,’’ said Akauola.

Participants were given the Mini MDG booklet produced by the UN Millennium Campaign and PINA in the build-up to last month’s “Stand Up” campaign and world leaders’ summit on the MDGs in New York.

“What we are doing is taking the message outside the urban centers and down to the rural areas, and where better to start then with our young people who in one way or the other could be affected by one or several of these MDGs in the next five years,” Akauola said.

“We also had practical work straight after the teaching focusing on Goal 7 of protecting our environment, by picking up rubbish along the road on the main Suva/Nadi highway between Navua and Deuba.” End Hunger Global Universal Education Gender Equity Child Health Maternal Health Combat HIV/AIDS Environmental Sustainability Oceania Global Partnership English Fiji Tue, 12 Oct 2010 14:50:12 +0000 Miki 1090 at http://endpoverty2015.org
