Saturday 11 September the coalition of Belgian NGOs active in the North-South movement, called ’2015 De Tijd Loopt’ (freely translated: “2015 time is running out”) organised with the city of Ghent a very large event ‘Wachtnacht’. Stand Up banners were displayed in the square where 15.000 people gathered to listen to a free concert, take part in all sorts of activities to raise awareness on the MDGs and record a videofilm to be submitted to politicians in Belgium, Europe and in NY for the MDG Summit calling them to keep to their promises made in 2000.

Baaba Maal joins the United Nations Millennium Campaign and its partners to ask us all to join him between the on the 17th and the 19th of September 2010 to Stand Up,Take Action and Make Noise with the aim of pressuring our leaders to keep their promises on the Millennium Development Goals.

Africa, for instance, accounts for less than 3 percent of global emissions, yet its 850 million inhabitants face some of the biggest challenges from drought and disrupted water supplies. Moreover, poor countries lack the basic infrastructure and financial means to respond adequately to these challenges. Decades of development gains are under threat due to climate change.
