The official launch of the French Campaign on MDGs - "Huit fois Oui" - took place on 14 October at the French National Assembly in Paris. The Dicrector of the UN Millennium Campaign Europe, Marina Ponti, was invited in this occasion to share best practices on how to better communicate and inform public opinion on the MDGs.
The focus of the French Campaign is to raise awareness of the MDGs particularly through an exhibition made of 8 totems, each representing one of the Goals, that will travel around the country. Sensibilisation on this topic will particularly target the young public. The exibit will be rolled out to numerous schools during the school year mainly targeting children of age 9 through 13. An information kit, comprising also a book on the 8 Goals, will be distributed among the public at large particularly within enterprises, universities and other public places.
The French Campaign is carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery, the Minstry of Education and the French National Agency for Development (AFD).
The UN Millennium Campaign plans to open an office in Paris in the first quarter of 2009 to contribute in raising awareness on the Goals.
